DOOM Micro Transactions In-App Purchases
If DOOM had micro transactions, playing the game would be a lot more frustrating. To show why this is the case, programmer Guy Dupont created a demo that would have a QR code pop up prompting for payment every time the player picked up an item.

Should the player try to bypass the payment screen, DOOM will freeze up entirely until it detects that the money has been received. Funny enough, the original DOOM was so successful due to its free shareware distribution scheme, which teased players with the first level in hopes that they would eventually buy the full game for $40 USD ($86.46 in 2024).
