We all need a closer look at things before buying them right? You can’t get closer than this, PC Watch Japan has gutted the new iPod Nano.

They discovered, as we have already surmised, that the iPod Nano’s flash mem of choice is manufactured by Samsung. Looks like the 4GB version has two 2GB of ‘em, and the 2GB has only one. Since our Japanese isn’t too good, we can’t tell if people can pull them out to use in other products, or if it’s otherwise hackable.

T3 reports that Sony has reinvented the walkman to compete with the upcoming iPod Nano. This new walkman will be released in 6GB and 20GB models with both the display and case, color matched. No word yet on pricing or availability.

Sony has also revealed that its new Walkman will equip you with more flexibility and the ability to find music faster and easier than ever before. See, because as well as being able to search songs via the usual categories, it also enables you to look-up tunes by release date and most-recently-transferred tracks. Plus, it features a ‘My Favourite Shuffle’ function that automatically selects the 100 songs you listen to most and plays them randomly. And there’s a ‘Time Machine Shuffle’ mode which randomly selects a year and plays all the songs from that year.
