3D Desktop

Similar to the motion-controlled OS switching, Bill used Gentoo Linux, a Penmount touchscreen, Gnome, and XGL to create a "3D Desktop" interface. Video after the jump.

Mmmm Compiz/XGL is perdy. I had it running on by P3 based PC under Xubuntu no problem. Hours of fun spinning the desktop cube around. XD

its realy cool wold have liked it better if it was an app for xp or vista o well and whats with the wisteling its gatta be the moast annoying thing ever

That's fantastic. Now I really gotta get my Toughbook touchscreen working with X. Linux, does a body good.

Dude. This would be tiring. I couldn't imagine how can I work with this thing for more than 5 minutes.

i find these interfaces very exciting but can't help thinking you would need a much larger monitor to get the full benefit from it. on a monitor like the one used in the vid i can imagine struggling to press on a small link and having to press it several times. compared to a cursor, our huge, chubby fingers just won't be able to cope.

hello... I'm brazillian, I was searching on google about "3D desktop, touchscreen and xgl and gentoo" and i found this... many people think it's a fake video! but its not... you know thad is simple possible! tanks... and let's use the technology!!
