Jetpack Joyride Arcade Machine

With the mobile game market just beginning, it’s only a matter of time before all popular games are ported to the arcade machine platform. Currently, there are just a handful, and we’ve rounded up a few of the best for your viewing enjoyment, starting with Jetpack Joyride. In the mobile version, players uses a simple, one-touch system to control the jetpack; when the player presses anywhere on the touchscreen, the jetpack fires and Barry rises. When the player lets go, the jetpack turns off, and Barry falls. Because he is continually in motion, the player does not control his speed, simply his movement along the vertical axis. 5. Jetpack Joyride

Jetpack Joyride is a side-scrolling endless runner / action mobile game created by Chief Creative Officer Luke Muscat at Halfbrick Studios. The game features the same protagonist as Monster Dash, Barry Steakfries, who the player controls as he steals a jet pack from a top-secret laboratory. The game has been met with very favorable reviews, and has won numerous awards.

4. Doodle Jump

Doodle Jump is a platforming mobile game developed and published by Lima Sky. The game PapiJump by Sunflat Games inspired the gameplay of Doodle Jump, and characters featured in Doodle Jump were based on Elise Gravel’s illustrations. Doodle Jump was renowned for its selling rate by App Store standards, which counted 25,000 copies sold daily for 4 consecutive months (later overtaken by Angry Birds). The game has been developed into a video redemption game for play at video arcades.

3. Fruit Ninja

Fruit Ninja is a mobile game developed by Halfbrick Studios in Brisbane, Australia. Versions with alternative names exist, such as Fruit Ninja HD on the iPad, Fruit Ninja THD for Nvidia Tegra 2-based Android devices, and an arcade version called Fruit Ninja FX. In the game the player must slice fruit that is thrown into the air by swiping the device’s touch screen with their finger(s) or in the case of the Xbox 360 version, the player’s arms and hands. It features multiple gameplay modes, leaderboards and multiplayer.

2. Temple Run

Temple Run is an endless running video game developed and published by the Raleigh-based Imangi Studios. It is produced, designed and programmed by husband and wife team Keith Shepherd and Natalia Luckyanova, and with art by Kiril Tchangov. The game was initially released for iOS devices, and later ported to Android systems and Windows Phone 8. A sequel to the original game was released on January 17, 2013 for iOS, and on January 24 for Android. As of June 2014, Temple Run and its sequel have been downloaded over 1 billion times.

1. Flappy Bird

Flappy Bird is a mobile game developed by Vietnam-based developer Dong Nguyen and published by .GEARS Studios, a small, independent game developer also based in Vietnam. It’s basically a side-scroller where the player controls a bird, attempting to fly between rows of green pipes without coming into contact with them. The developer created the game over several days, using a bird protagonist which he had designed for a cancelled game in 2012.
