The 1961 Ferrari 250 GT SWB California Spyder ($11.7-$14.8 million) and a 1956 Maserati A6G 2000 ($800,000+) are just two of the extremely rare vintage cars discovered going up for auction on February 4, 2015 at Retromobile Salon at the Porte de Versailles Exhibition Centre in Paris, France. Inventor and auto enthusiast Roger Bailon made his fortune manufacturing trucks, and after the war, he began to amass a significant collection of cars with the goal of one day opening an automobile museum on one of his properties. Fast forward to today, his grandchildren discovered a collection of 60 vintage automobiles from the 1930s to the 1950s left to rust in sheds on the family’s farm in western France. “These aren’t your run-of-the-mill 1930s vintage automobiles, either (if such a thing exists). One Talbot-Lago in the collection had previously been owned by Egyptian King Farouk and a Ferrari had been used in the filming of a movie with Jane Fonda. Along with the rare Maserati in this collection, Baillon had intended to build a museum with his collection. When things didn’t go as expected, however, he had to sell 50 cars, and the rest of the collection was forgotten,” says Bored Panda.
