Instructables user Uiproductions always wanted a piece of Star Trek memorbilia in his house, so what better way to make that dream come true than by building this geeky air-powered door? Here’s what its creator has to say: “With a rough plan in my head, I drew a quick CAD model of the door and the brackets that would connect the pistons to the door halves. I was ready to start purchasing parts.”

2. Self-Lacing Back to the Future Shoes
Remember the Nike Air 2015 kicks from Back to the Future 2? Well, an Instructables user named Blake Bevin made them a reality. The operation is quite simple: step into the shoe and a force sensor reads the pressure of your foot and activates two servo motors, which apply tension to the laces, tightening the shoe.

3. Liquid Nitrogen Machine
That’s right, Ben Krasnow has built a machine that makes liquid nitrogen for under $500; it’s made with many parts he bought off of eBay and can generate a liter a day of the stuff at a cost of $1.15 per liter. According to Ben, “the device consumes about 300 to 400 watts of electricity and needs no consumables (just atmospheric air).”

4. Megatron Tank
Why build custom action figures, when you have the knowledge and skills to create an actual Megatron tank replica from Transformers? It reportedly stands 8-feet tall and weighs in at a hefty 5-tons. Even more surprising, it was made entirely from scrap metal.

5. NES Coffee Table
So, you’ve seen the Super Coffee Table NES, now check out what the accompanying console would look like. Opening the lid, reveals “the storage for the controller, or even can store remote controls and game controllers in there for easy access/storage.” Plus, the controller ports are actually power outlets that let you charge just about any electronic device, including laptops.

A 25-year-old ZTE employee named Wang XiaoKang — a Chinese telecommunications equipment maker — created an ultra realistic Iron Man Mark I suit from scratch in just 3-months, and on a $460USD budget. Hopefully, we’ll see it equipped with a weapon or two in the near future.

7. Pulse Laser Gun
Not just a weapon seen in science-fiction movies anymore, this homemade pulse laser gun actually works. Its creator says that just “one shot can punch through a razor blade, plastic, 5mm styrofoam when focused.” This weapon measures 320mm long and weighs approximately 2-pounds.
