Tortoise Wheels

A hibernating 90-year-old tortoise named Mrs. T in Pembrook, Wales didn’t expect rats to chew off her front legs, and its owner, Jude Ryder, feared for the worst. After spending £1,000 at the vet, the doctors did little to improve the situation, that is until…Ryder’s son Dale, 37, a mechanical engineer, glued wheels from a model aircraft onto the tortoise’s shell, enabling her to move twice as fast. “It was like fitting her with a turbo charger – she’s going double the speed she used to. Mrs T is still quite young for a tortoise. She could go on for another 50 years – all she needs is a new set of tires every now and again,” says Ryder.
