Drivers have all been stuck behind a truck on a narrow two-lane road at one time or another, but what if these large vehicles in front of us had a screen that displayed a real-time video of the road ahead? That’s exactly what Samsung has come up with, and it consists of a four monitor wall, mounted on the back doors of the company’s delivery vehicles, which are wirelessly connected to a video camera mounted in front. The video may only show the displays working in low light, but Samsung insists the LED monitors are able to deflect solar glare.
At first glance, the idea makes sense: you can easily see if there’s oncoming traffic, and have a sense of the gap between the truck as well as any other vehicles ahead of it. However, it would be a large investment for any trucking company to make – not just in terms of the initial investment but also in terms of the added weight and fuel usage that the monitors would use.
