Airbus Concorde 2

Here’s a first look at what could be the Concorde 2, with the design based on a patent awarded to Airbus in July. Unlike its supersonic predecessor, this plane will be able to achieve a maximum speed of Mach 4.5, meaning a journey from New York to London would take just one hour. How is this possible? Well, two turbo jets enable the aircraft to climb vertically at take-off, before retracting into the fuselage as it reaches the speed of sound. A rocket motor would then take it to an altitude of 100,000 feet, at which point the wing-mounted ramjets take control to push the jet to its final speed.
