You’ve seen other companies do this before, but Vancouver-based artist Wendy Tsao is a one-person company who turns children’s drawings into handmade plush toys. They’re officially called “softies,” and can be made from just about any drawing. It all started in 2007, when she transformed her four-year-old son’s self-portrait into an original, one-of-a-kind toy. She says: “I loved it because it was his first creative effort to make sense of his world.” Current production allows her to make up to 120 toys per year through Child’s Own Studio.
