Similar to Volkswagon's automated parking garage, this one was spotted in Japan .Video after the jump. Here's how Volkswagon's version works:
In a fully automated procedure, your new car is brought down to you from one of the 20-story Car Towers. Large signboards in the Customer Center show you when your turn has come. Then, you’re handed the keys, your picture is taken, the glass doors open and your brand-new car appears. You’re all set to go.

It's not a garage. It's an advertisement. I'm sick of people thinking these things are real.
3
Or if the whole thing went up in flames. . . . . .BOOM.. . . .BOOM lol
4
Spencer, It IS real. I am currently in Japan and I plan to visit it.
5
not sure of the picture.. but those things in the video ( spining karts carrying cars that are sent to some space) i see them all the time while in Taiwan, makes me laugh to see the ignorant americans thinking this is unreal or high tech lmao
6
u seriously think that is a advertisement? I am so sick of people thinkin they know something and dont even factor in common sence. i mean what kind of retard advertisement would that be.
7
This Japanese one in the video looks like one of those ferris wheel style carparks that they had in the US in the 1930s, nothing like the Volkswagon one pictured.

Spencer It's real. These things are everywhere in Tokyo, they are more common than actual parking lots, and are found anywhere. The Sweeper PLan on visiting one? You have a car in Japan? Otherwise it's not like they're going to let you in...I've tried. But it's a great tourist attraction really, you always see foreigners taking video for everyone back home, "ooh, look at how advance Japan is, they have giant vertical tie racks for cars!" Don't see why these haven't become popular in America....oh...wait...SUVs.
9

Dave Interesting topic... I'm working in this industry myself and I don't agree about this in 100%, but I added your page to my bookmarks and hope to see more interesting articles in the future

Due to Japans limited space for development and also their intentions for a sustainable future, this type of multistorey parking is much more viable than the traditional large floor area car parks you see in America, and a lot of other countries for that matter. There are simpler versions of such parking in around the world, sort of like a mini version, where it is a 3 or 4 storey lift thing for each parking space, so you tell the thing which car you are and it moves up or down until your car is the one that is level with ground, and you hop in and reverse out.
