Boston Dynamics' BigDog Robot Sets New World Record

The BigDog, built by Boston Dynamics, has set a new world autonomous distance record. At 2.5-miles per hour, it traveled 12.8-miles "autonomously avoiding obstacles and dealing with varied terrain until its fuel ran out." Continue reading for the BigDog spoof, which is an oldie but goodie.

This is pretty impressive, but not good enough for DARPA, who wants a legged robot with a range of 20 miles and a 400 pound payload for its new Legged Squad Support System program.

Ah, the BigDog! I remember when video of this thing first popped up a few years ago, it actually had creeped me out for a while before I could appreciate it.
