It’s no Atari Portfolio, but MovieCart does let you play real full-length movies on original Atari 2600 hardware in full-color. Watching movies in 80×192 pixel resolution may not be ideal with a limited color palette may not be ideal, but it does work.

The new My Arcade x Atari Gamestation Portable handheld was unveiled at CES 2024 this past week, and it most certainly is more compact than the Atari Portfolio from 1989. What sets it apart from similar devices is the built-in trackball and paddle controls that will let fans enjoy classics like Pong as they remember them.

Atari Pong was released on this day (November 29) in 1972 and some may not know that the game was developed by engineer Allan Alcorn as a training exercise assigned to him by company co-founder Nolan Bushnell. Ted Dabney, the second Atari co-founder, was so surprised by the quality of Alcorn’s work that he decided to manufacture the game for release in arcades.
It’s true, the Atari Portfolio is a real IBM PC-compatible palmtop computer that was released back in June 1989 at the price of $399.95 ($985.98 in 2023). This palmtop PC was actually developed by DIP (Distributed Information Processing) Research and then licensed to Atari for sale as the Portfolio in the UK and US.
PLAION has unveiled the Atari 2600+, a modern recreation of the classic consoles with several upgrades including HDMI output, USB power, and even the ability to choose from multiple screen resolutions. Aside from the included 10-in-1 cartridge (Adventure, Combat, Dodge ‘Em, etc.), this console is backwards compatible with hundreds of original Atari 2600 and 7800 games.

Each one of the ten Atari 2600 cartridges has reimagined artwork on the front label and an acrylic topper displaying the game’s title that lights up when inserted into the console.
Unlike the LEGO Atari 2600, the MyArcade X Atari Gamestation Plus is a functional retrogaming console with over 200 built-in classic games. It will be priced at $99.99 USD when released later in June and include legendary games from the Atari 2600, Atari 7800 and Atari Arcade platforms.
