I do want it badly.. how awesome would it be to take a trans-continetal spin in this baby. $21200.. that's less then a proper car. Fuel cost would be bad though. @nate- I dont know about US, but in Holland it's illigal to have ex-military planes. A guy once got an old Mig-17 from some east-european country but the authorities said it was weaponary(althoug the gun and missiles where removed) and confiscated it. Now it stand at a museum :p

nate: yes, it is legal to fly that thing in US. but there are a couple of issues. Apart from the paperwork and permissions, which is obvious. First of all, your house, or any house for that matter cannot be anywhere near the runway. I know that because I was living relatively close to a jet runway (about 2km away) from which jets like MIG21 were taking off. You'd have to have your windows replaced every once in a while, trust me, let alone the noise (they're taking off on afterburner, looks nice at night, but it's a pain in the a**). Plus the hangar is not a place were you just keep the jet. The jet has to be inspected, repaired, checked and all that before and after every flight. And i'm talking about a jet here, so it means careful and proper maintainance. The runway also must be adapted for jets like that one. So dream on buddy, or pay a load of cash to somebody who would take care of it for you.

Yes, You could "technically" fly it. You would have to have a commercial pilots. A private would not cover jet. Plus ONLY subsonic with City Flight Paths. No sure how far out you would have to be. PLUS, I wouldn't suggest flying in International Waters.

eBay is now an arms dealer? wow You can own an ex-militry plane in the UK, but you have to be fully licenced to fly the type of aircraft and be registered and very rich.
6
you gotta have air space clearance to fly it, let alone a license and probably some other certification that you won't blow stuff up. (if you secretly attach real live weapons on it)

Yes in the US you can legally own and fly any of these types of planes. You still have to get it registered and have it maintained though. Usually this type of plane would be registered under the "restricted" catagory. Restricted does not have anything to do with its military background but is because it was not made according to FAA standards etc. among a few other things. It is sad that countries like Holland do not realize that old planes like this are NOT of any military significance in a modern air war. The electronics on that thing have to be practically non-existant! It would be almost as bad as someone during the 1950 time frame referring to WW1 bi-planes as "military" planes. This MiG is probably about 40-50 years old! It would be cool to have but I think the maintenance and fuel bill would be unbelievable! This is why most of the people that buy these in the US use them for air shows or museums.

Actually 26,000 is expensive...because it doesn't fly! Says "No airworthy" at the bottom.
