that will not work to destroy the data on the CD. this unit only scratches the bottom surface of the CD. The data is stored on the top layer. The bottom layer could easily be restored using a conventional CD repair kit. just use a pair of scisors

I know, it seems stupid that someone is too lavy to just destroy cds in the good ol' fastion way.

aet took my thoughts... This is NOT secure unless you etch the top of the dvd, where the flaky metallic layer is. Otherwise you're just scratching the plastic. If you're really paranoid or just want to ensure the disc is gone forever, get a proper disc shreader and turn it safely into little bits.
