Set for release in Q4 2006, the Nintendo Wii will include four controller ports, a slot-loading disc drive, 802.11 b/g Wi-Fi, 512MB of Flash memory, two USB 2.0 ports, SD card slot for memory expansion, PowerPC CPU (Broadway), ATI GPU (Hollywood), and Gamecube disc compatibility. The Virtual Console lets players download classic games from a selection of SNES, NES, N64, TurboGrafx 16, and Gensis titles. The WiiMote has a built-in speaker, rumble capabilities, expansion bay (Zapper, etc.), d-pad, and a thumb stick. Speculated price range is currently $149 - $299. Two videos after the jump.

Nintendo has to know they couldn't make it with the Wii at any price above $250 and even then *I* wouldn't buy it. If it were $200 or less, I'd consider it. They surely wouldn't make it at $300 because then you are faced with the XBOX 360 and for $300 I'd rather buy the XBOX 360 than the Wii with its subpar graphics and questionable titles, about the only game I'd play on the Wii is Red Steel but then I'd rather play FEAR or Crysis on my PC just compare Crysis to Red Steel. Is comparing a $1800+ computer to a $200+ console fair, no, but I'm a PC gamer. I look for graphic quality and gameplay quality. Nintendo has gameplay for sure, graphics they do not and now you see why I'd rather get the 360 if the Wii is $300. But that $300 would probably go into my PC so it really wouldn't matter. I'll continue to game on my PC, everyone else can have their consoles.

Pretty cheap deal. I guess that Wii will look good standing right next to my PS3. Good thing they have that normal controller option though. It would have been a pain in my b^tt to get Goldeneye off the virtual console and try to play it will those Nun-chucks.
What I have trouble understanding...is why the silver banana (PS3's original controller) got so many people up in arms against it, but people seem to like the Nun-chucks on the Wii. ??? Whatever, I hope it does attract new people to the gaming realm, we could use the support.

I was pleased to see the more 'traditional' control pad for the Wii, but why the hell is it hooked up to the Wiimote? Don't tell me that to use it you have to be connected to that dumb bar-shaped-thingy?!

Nintendo is going to do really really well this year. Its going to open the market up to people who otherwise would just go about playing flash games on pc. Not sure if I want to play online with 'those' people, kinda of like a noob overload really... but I'm looking foward to wii.
cory: fanboys are lame. We all know you've been posting all week about how cool the ps3 is, I really hope your mom buys you one so you shut up.

James:
What's your point? The PS3 is a great system, that's why I've been posting for it. Because the media, and a crap load of anti-fanboys have been tearing it up. Apparently no one can look at the situation objectively. I don't care who buys one, I will...eventually. And for less than $250, I'll probably buy a Wii.
By the way, I'm 25 years old, and the only thing my mom buys me anymore is birthday cards. Let me know when you want to come over to my house and check out my set up.

Wednesday,
Do you even bother to read people's responses to your comments?
To all who think I'm a fanboy,
If my ability to look at a situation objectively, take in all angles and see the true value in a product makes me bias, so be it. I understand price is a big player, and most of my arguments have been towards getting the best bang for you buck (ie, value per dollar). But if your buck stops shy of $599, then yes I've said PS3 isn't the best deal for you.
Most of my comments have been towards people and posts regarding sony's 'theft' of technology anyway.
But since so many of you are terribly intersted in my situation, here's some demographics for you.
I'm 25, white, Self-employed, and not doing too bad. I have a BBA and a cert. in sales. I live with my girlfriend in Houston. She's a therapist.
I currently own (to show my fanboy'ness) a PSP, PS2, Dreamcast, N64, and a SNES. They're all still hooked up, however don't all get much use.
And my business affords me way too much time on the web, hence why I'm on this site all the time lately.
Oh, and I double checked my Philosphy grade in college. It was just an A, no minus.

I agree about the price of the WII and yes I am a PC gamer too. But I am still looking foward to the WII because..
1. The new controler is going to be awsome.
2. The game are going to be awsome.
3. It's most likly going to be a console everyone can afford.

Cory...
Do you think just because your white your superior in anyway compared to other coloured peeps?
tons of peeps agree that sony is gonna fail this round, no one is willing to spend so much on it, !PS3 = PC\Console hybrid!

Excuse me? Did you just imply I'm a racist? When did I ever claim to be better than ANYONE, let alone someone from another race? The only reason my race even came up is because I've had a couple people on site curious about my situation so I threw down all my demographics.
I have yet to think I'm superior to anyone of any race.
As far as what tons of 'peeps' agree on, the media and market analysis...which I'm sure is where you're getting your information (that's sarcasim by the way) are wrong all the time. Remember Dreamcast? It was supposed to be huge. The market itself is the only determining factor of sucess. we'll see what happens this winter.

Ok play all the rest of your fun time on a pc (i'm a pc user first of all),but i think that we are in front of a revolution in gameplay view.
Finally we are going back to have really fun time in front of a videogame with Nintendo Wii.
Everybody spoke about Wii specs...o please cmon...you know that Wii don't use HD?So the quality of image would probanly be similar to the other...maybe not equal but in line with next-gen game all around.
The HD tv all around the world it's not really much...and maybe the number wouldn't change in a clearly way in the next 5 years,so you buy a powerfull console like other that use HD to have graphic improvement but only on HD tv when on your Wii you will see the same graphic but a lower level of definition?Lower level of definition on normal tv it's equal to say that we had the same level of effect on all the next gen console.
Anyway my idea of fun it's something that i could made with mi friends at my place sharing the game and moving myself giving us the idea of immersion into a funny game!!
I don't wanna be with my friend looking at a game and thinking al the time...WOW what wonderfull graphic and sound...i'm playing?my friends have fun with me in this moment in some new way?.
Sorry for my english i'm from Italy.

Nintendo all the way look they have always been on the front of new gaming ideas. They have brought the analog stick they were the first ones to use it in N64 then PS stole it for their controlers. Now they have it where you control everything with a move on a hand which by the way was used earlier in Nintendo games for the gameboy. Sony now stole that idea for their OLD PS2 controler and called it a inovation. I mean come on Nintendo is runing the show everyone else is lucky to follow.

PS3 YEH!
PS3 is the most powerfull machine out there and supports bluray. I comes loaded with Linux and has the possibility of installing windows or MacOSX. The Wii dosn't even support HDTV! and the 360 has a slower processing time.
I guess for those poor souls that cant afford a PS3 Wii and 360 is for you LOL!
I want a console that doesn't support High Def (NOT!!!!)

Well, at the point of May 25th, (Source: http://wii.ign.com/articles/710/710181p1.html)
Nintendo announced that the Wii will be "less than" 250, and Sony announced PS3 is 500 for a small HDD and 600 for the bigger one (For those who don't know....but you all probably know). Well, the PS3 price tag is a lot, but lets face it: it has significantly better graphics and specs than the Wii, along with Blue ray support. On the other hand, Wii is a Gamecube 1.5 in terms of specs (Nintendo's reasoning (the source for this is a japanese game magazine): the developer's can't catch up to the sharp increase in specs). Sure the controller would be enough to fight off the other systems in the early stage when Sony and MS can't use the hardware to it's full potential. But what about in the later stage? I personally would like a Wii now just because of the price, but would definitely buy a PS3 once it starts dropping prices (about 2 years from now), because that's about the time when the system would be used to it's full potential.
