This followup to the functional hard drive speakers uses a laser mounted on the HDD's body to produce an oscilloscope effect -- when the output is bounced off a mirror. Video clips after the jump.
We have all seen an oscilloscope hooked up to a speaker output to allow us to “watch” the music. Well now you can see a standard oscilloscope and a Hard Drive Oscilloscope side by side!

The first video is just crappy. The green oscilloscope has nothing to do with the HDD one. You just can't see the laser becasue the light is on. On the second, the hard drive is hooked to the music (if you didn't see the hard drive speakers post, go see it) and the laser is bouncing off two mirrors, which the second one is shaking along with the music creating the oscilloscope with the laser. The green one on the little screen is a real one that is just for comparison. Kinda cool. Simple enough.

well, this is more of a harddrive semi-functioning as a Galvanometer witha laser pointed at it. all that would have to really be done to make it a functional oscilloscope would be to just make the harddrive spin continuously in the same direction, then just speed up or slow down the spinning dependent on the frequency being input.
