Finding a small piece of jewelry with a metal detector is already treasure to some, but this amateur prospector from Australia unearthed an 11-pound gold nugget worth a whopping $300,000. According to sources, he used a state-of-the-art metal detector that was able to find the gold relatively deep underground in an area which had been searched many times in the past. Cordell Kent, owner of the Ballarat Mining Exchange Gold Shop, says: “I have been a prospector and dealer for two decades, and cannot remember the last time a nugget over 100 ounces (2.8kg) has been found locally”.
