There are some drawbacks to the earmuff/headphone concept, however. First, despite the wire-free picture, these babies aren't Bluetooth, so there will always be a telltale and distracting cable to deal with. Second, in our experience any devices that run on batteries — from iPods to Discmen — perform somewhat poorly in the cold. Perhaps the best strategy is to clip an iPod shuffle to your underpants before you go walking in a musical but warm-eared wonderland

My Panasonic CD player has no problem playing in the cold...even at -30C in the outside pocket of my backpack on the way to school in the morning. :)
