Ever wonder how they deliver new films to theaters around the world? If so, these images should give you some insight. Long gone are the film reels, now everything is “digital projection”. The yellow Peli 1300 flight case you see above contains the actual DCP (Digital Cinema Package) for each individual film. Once opened, you’ll find a Western Digital 500GB hard drive, Linux formatted in EXT3, loaded in a CRU DX115 caddy, and slotted into a Move Dock. There are some cinema houses that can slot the caddy directly into their server, while others remove the hard drive and place it into CRU’s Move Dock, a USB / SATA external dock that can be used for transfers. Going back into the flight case, all the necessary cables are also included for the Move Dock. Once connected to a computer, this is contents of the DCP folder: Video (MXF), Audio (MXF), Packing List (XML), Composition Playlist (XML), and lastly, the Asset Map Volume Index.
