The Italian government has announced a Strategic Tourist Plan, one in which they plan on giving away 103 historic buildings – villas, inns, houses, towers, etc., but there’s a catch. The recipient must pledge to restore the buildings, located in the more remote areas of the country, in a way that will diversify the country’s tourism industry. What does this mean? Transforming them into hotels, restaurants, visitor centers, spas, shops, or just anything that will attract tourist traffic and help boost their economy.
