That's right, scientists have discovered a lost continent beneath the Indian Ocean. They claim that it sank beneath the waves as the two land masses drifted apart, and deduced its existence by analyzing sand from Mauritius. Continue reading for the news report and more information.
According to professor Trond Torsvik from the University of Oslo, Norway: "We found zircons that we extracted from the beach sands, and these are something you typically find in a continental crust. They are very old in age." Another researcher says: "The zircons were assimilated from ancient fragments of continental lithosphere beneath Mauritius, and were brought to the surface by plume-related lavas."
