Missouri government and businessmen partnered with Virgin Hyperloop One to conduct a feasibility study, and they discovered that such a transport system could save commuters between the two cities $410-million per year. It would be built alongside the I-70 corridor and offer people an alternative to standard driving, with up to 6,000 people during peak transportation hours utilizing HyperLoop. They estimate that it takes just 31 minutes to travel the 248 miles between St. Louis and Kansas City, whereas currently, the trip takes 55 minutes to travel between the cities by plane and nearly 4 hours in a car. “It would transport people at roughly 700mph between distant locations through closed off vacuum tubes. The initial cost estimate for building the I-70 hyperloop route would be $30 million to $40 million per mile of track, the report found – giving a total price tag of $7 billion to $10 billion. Dozens of possible routes were proposed across the United States, including connections between Los Angeles and San Francisco; New York City and Washington, D.C.; Denver and Houston,” according to The Daily Mail.
