Sideways Elevator
ThyssenKrupp has unveiled “MULTI”, the world’s first cable-less, horizontal-vertical elevator that will be installed in an 8070-foot tall tower in Rottweil, Germany. What does this mean? The installation consists of multiple elevator cabins capable of running in a loop, thanks to magnetic levitation technology that cycles multiple cars through the structure’s shaft system.

ThyssenKrupp claims their system has no height limitations, as it can move horizontally and vertically, thus opening up new architectural possibilities. This is very important because as more people move to the world’s cities, the design of high-rise buildings will make a serious impact on a city’s carbon emissions.
