Voyager 1 is now more than 11-billion miles from the sun, and its signal takes approximately 17-hours to travel to Earth. Even more significant, once the spacecraft breaks through to interstellar space, it will be the first man-made object to leave the solar system, says Edward Stone, Voyager project scientist based at the California Institute of Technology, in Pasadena, California.
