NASA RS-25 Rocket

NASA is exploring manned missions to Mars, and the RS-25, in the Space Launch System (SLS) rocket system, will be what they use to get there. Their most recent tests had engineers fire the engine for 500-seconds to inspect the flight controller as the engine burned in place. The SLS will be powered by a total of four RS-25 engines, combined with solid rocket boosters, to produce 8-million pounds of thrust to propel the Orion spacecraft skyward. The Orion will be tested on an upcoming mission to orbit the moon. Click here to view the first image in today's viral picture gallery.
