Rupert (above), a tiny muntjac fawn, was born three weeks early after his mother was hit by a car. The little orphan, delivered by Caesarean section, was just 6-inches tall and, at 500-grams, weighed slightly more than a bag of sugar. The present-day species are native to south-east Asia and can be found in India, Sri Lanka, southern China, Taiwan, Japan, the Indonesian islands, as well as some areas of England.
