In the pictures, firefighters work in silvery suits and crash teams cautiously approach the empty ejection seats, which use explosive charges to gain distance from a foundering airplane.

I agree, expensive.... I also feel for the people who have to go through that mess and whoever was in it. I would think they would have ejected, but still...
