Researchers at Japan’s National Institute of Informatics have developed the world’s first pair of glasses that can prevent facial recognition by cameras. It uses 11 near-infrared LEDs that can’t be seen by the human eye, but when passed through a camera’s imaging device, they appear as bright spots. Continue reading for a video and more information.
For those wondering, the LEDs are installed in these locations because they obscure the eyes and part of the nose to completely throw off camera-based facial recognition systems. Next up, they plan on making a low-cost visor that doesn’t use electricity, but rather reflective material in a special pattern instead, to break up the features used in face detection.
