Sharp Debuts 5-Megapixel Camera for Cell Phones

Sharp has just announced the availability of a 5.0-megapixel camera for cell phones. It's also "the first cameraphone module to feature the world's first 3X optical linear zoom with auto focus -- measuring just under an inch in length." Pricing has been set at $172.
Sharp is set to ramp up production in January, so you may see it in some phones out of Asia starting next year. Pricing for the sample is set at $172, though, so those future mobiles probably won't be on the cheap side

5 Megapixel on that small CCD? You will get big files, and rubbish picture quality. Megapixel-o-mania for the simple minded. But I bet it will sell very well.
