Sony NW-S706

Sony expands its digital audio player lineup with the sleek NW-S706. Available in pink, black, or purple varities, this player boasts 4GB of memory, an integrated FM tuner, noise cancellation technology, quick charge function, channel separation, line-in recording, and an incredible 50-hour battery life. Pricing and availability have not yet been announced.
It looks like Sony is finally hopping into the high-capacity flash pool, though the tiny color-screen leaves something to be desired. We may see an additional model with Bluetooth as an option

I personally think that flash players are the way to go. They need the capability to accept memory pro cards to "upgrade" the player. They also need all of these features: fm tuner, line-in, built-in microphone, and USB 2.0, connectivity. I have the iRiver ifp-799. It rocks the house. I can strap it to my backpack shoulder strap and play it. It runs on AA batteries, so I can reload it anywhere, not waiting for a recharge point. I produce radio news reports and have used the device to collect audio recordings. The only down side to it was the drain when uploading files. I think that battery issues would be cheaper with an AA system, color screens give little extra information, and a HD based systems are too big to wear on the shoulder strap of a backpack. I think iRiver is making a mistake by leaving this small flash market. Also, for people who put too much music on an HD based system, the flash drive is the way to go. At half the price of an HD system you can afford two of them. Sony...you are well on your way towards coolness again.
