Peter Ablinger, an Austrian composer, has created a system capable of transforming a child speaking into MIDI events played on a mechanically-controlled piano. The result? A creepy voice straight from a horror film. Ablinger describes the events as 'pixels', a system that takes human speech and translates it to a sequence of notes to be played on a piano by 'mechanical fingers.' "Itís pretty extraordinary that without a bandpass filter, you get something approximating the noisy sibilance of the speech, but this seems to be the result of having lots of events (that is, lots of resolution in terms of time)," according to Digi Cult.
