Super Mario Bros. Theme Played with Arduino, Stepper Motors

Yes, it's another Super Mario Bros. theme recreation, but the first we've seen that uses Arduino -- "a physical computing platform based on a simple I/O board" and stepper motors. Continue reading for the video.

Eventually all music will be made this way: a 24-volt power supply, an Arduino board, and three stepper motors.

So where actually notes exist? Could you explain bit more detailed what your system is doing? I think it could open more idea why there is specially used Arduino board for creating this "system".
