The Toyota Hilux is just about as rugged as trucks come, but when Iceland-based Arctic Trucks gets their hands on one of them, it becomes an all-terrain beast. The AT44 is powered by a 3.0L diesel engine that produces 171-horsepower, and when paired with rugged 44 x 18.5 x 15 tires, even the toughest of hills become a walk in the park. A 550L fuel tank and 2000kg carrying capacity ensure that you won’t be stranded in the middle of nowhere. For those who like camping out, the modular truck bed allows you to add a camper. “In normal conditions, the Hilux remains ‘rear-wheel drive’, powering the two rearmost axles, with 60 per cent of its torque to the middle and 40 per cent to the rear. But through a series of diffs, and the confusingly-labelled 4WD gearstick, the Hilux can send all manner of power in all manner of directions to generate traction,” reports Top Gear.
