The Toyota Hilux is just about as rugged as trucks come, but when Iceland-based Arctic Trucks gets their hands on one of them, it becomes an all-terrain beast. The AT44 is powered by a 3.0L diesel engine that produces 171-horsepower, and when paired with rugged 44 x 18.5 x 15 tires, even the toughest of hills become a walk in the park. “In normal conditions, the Hilux remains ‘rear-wheel drive’, powering the two rearmost axles, with 60 per cent of its torque to the middle and 40 per cent to the rear. But through a series of diffs, and the confusingly-labelled 4WD gearstick, the Hilux can send all manner of power in all manner of directions to generate traction,” reports Top Gear.
