Elementary school teacher Alycia Zimmerman found that her students were not responding well to traditional math assignments, so she decided to use LEGO bricks instead to develop their spatial and proportional awareness. Since these bricks are already marked with studs grouped in twos, students can easily use them to identify patterns, making arithmetic concepts understandable, while also providing a fun experience. “Even in high schools and colleges, advanced LEGO kits can be utilized in classes such as robotics and computer programming. For her particular third grade class, Zimmerman has students practice a few, simple examples to get her point across,” said My Modern Met.
