The Consumerist reports on a recent Tekserve advertisement that took over $60,000 in iPod players to make -- achieving a "Rube Goldbergian domino effect". Watch after the jump.
The ad is for Tekserve, a large, independent Apple specialized store in New York City. That’s iTopia in the background, their store-within-a-store dedicated to iPods and iPod accessories.

unfortunately, while the numbers are impressive, i didn't think the ad was very cool. it was barely rube goldbergian, there was only one phase to it. dominoes hit the computer. all in all, a pretty lame rube goldberg machine.

The add was pretty unimpressive... although there were A LOT of iPods, they all looked fairly old. The add could have had the same exact effect if they had just bought a couple of old broken iPods. Like the other Adam mentioned, it was pretty boring with only one phase in the machine. Anyways, who would want to brake their iPod like that? I see no point in it at all.

what do you expect? americans made the video!!! hardy har, i only kid.

I actually like this ad, even though it's not much of a Rube Goldberg machine, it's still fun none the less. The main goal was to capture the viewers attention and I think this ad did the trick.

i just liked the noise it made

Of course, it's more likely that they'r just empty shells...

to be fair, the makers of the ad never claimed that it was a Goldberg machine, just whoever posted this. On its own merits (that is without this context) it certainly stands out. I'm sure this ad is working well for them in their market.

...fr1gg1n awesome d0m1n0 effect. God Bless the AAPL ticker & my u2 Pod. f*CK the MP/RI - AA.

To be perfectly honest, the big problem with their advert is not the iPod effect. I think in itself it's rather good. The problem is the fact the advert is so audibly unpolished. A 16 year old could get rid of that talking when the iBook flips, and any video director worth his salt knows that you should put a music track on there to make it stand out. D-, must try harder.

Its a good idea I´ll give´em that... But 60,000 dolars in Ipod´s for this??? Gimme 4000 and I´ll do the same thing with broken Ipods cause the result will be the same... This was a waste of money...

WEAK! This ad didn't even spark my interest in to wanting to see what this company's service is about. 60 Grand? What a sad waste. An amateur could have done much better with that kind of payout and ending up with a super Mac equiped studio (Multiple Pro Macs, Displays, Software, and a HD Semi-Pro Camera to boot).

I wouldn't buy iPods from that store. You probably get one of the smashed up ones they used to make that cheap ad.
21
You know, there's something we call "mock-up". Those don't need to BE real iPods, can be plastic or wood fakes, all they need is to LOOK like iPods.

computer video microsoft apple ipod windows, there that's lots of links
23
Sounds like a big marketing stunt. They'll probably resell those iPods anyway.
