Floating Ark

The Ark is essentially a floating hotel that’s designed to be a bioclimatic house with independent life-support systems, including elements ensuring a closed-functioning cycle. It can be built in various climates, a well as seismically dangerous regions since the basement area is a shell structure, without ledges or angles. A complex load-bearing system of arches and cables offer weight redistribution along the entire corpus in case of an earthquake. The shell-shaped design makes installing photovoltaic cells at an optimal angle toward the sun, a breeze, while the upper cupola part, collects warm air in seasonal heat accumulators to provide an uninterrupted energy supply for the whole complex independently from outer environmental conditions. Illuminated areas on the interior create well-lit places for growing plants at any time of day. Click here to view the first image in this week’s geek life gallery.
