Every airport I go through requires that I remove my laptop and place it in a bin. So this would be quite harder as someone would have to pick up the laptop and the bag separately.
At least I think it would be harder...

This is why I remove the hard drive and place it in another bin with my shoes. Even if somebody makes off with the machine, they won't be able to do much with it without the HD and your data is safe (to an extent).

Well, in the US I don't think the scam would be worth it because both guys in the scam would need tickets just to get to the security checkpoint.

Lame..Same scam was played out years ago on an episode of Magnum P.I.
(Except instead of a laptop bag it was a cylinder with a priceless painting in it.)
