This is not an early April Fools’ Day joke, Jaguar Land Rover has fitted their intelligent pods with virtual eyes for the sole reason of having the vehicle communicate with pedestrians. They are designed to look at pedestrians using the crosswalk, acknowledge their presence, and hopefully making them feel more comfortable crossing the road in front of driverless cars. “For a pedestrian, ‘It’s second-nature to glance at the driver of the approaching vehicle before stepping into the road,’ says Pete Bennett, Jaguar Land Rover’s Future Mobility Research Manager. Now, the pedestrian can exchange looks with the car! There HAS to be a Cars or Bob The Builder reference out there,” according to Yanko Design.
