Trophy Active Defense System

Marketed by General Dynamics, the Trophy Active Defense System (ADS) provides an invisible force field for military vehicles by disabling incoming RPG rounds. Video segment after the jump.
From the article: Trophy provides a dome of protection around a vehicle. When it detects an incoming missile, it throws a “beam” of fragments at it, which causes it to explode.

Reactive armor reacts when struck. This is more pre-emptive.

Hum...It is not a force field... Just a bunch of electronic system that makes the eplosive explode.... I guess magnetic force field are still top secret....

Dude. this is AMS from mech warrior. Anti-Missile system. A gun shoots rounds at the missle causing it to explode before reaching the target... just think of it as a patriot missile system only using bullets.

after watching the movie a 2nd time, you can actually see a "shot-gun" spray of bullets hit and fly past the missle.

It's really a real force field, it runs on pixie dust when the RPG comes near a bunch of lepecauns detect it and press a button that tells a computer. The computer prays so hard that god can hear it then God calls Chuck Norris and Chuck Norris then round houses the RPG so hard it explodes. If you watch the video you can see it.

uhh, did they maybe think about other vehicles that may be next to the vehicle equipt with the system? or what if there are multiple vehicles with that forcefield system.. will all of the vehicles try and blow it up? what about Multiple Rpgs? can it defend against 2+ rpgs?

This looks similar to the MK 15 Phalanx CIWS used to defend ships against anti-ship missiles. Old idea, smaller package.

is this the same system or based on the same principle that was being developed by britain and reported in 2002? something along the lines of an electrical arc "zapping" and vaporizing the copper head of an RPG? in the video there is a blue spark coming from the trophy system on the tank trial. whats the recharge time on this? could a tank survive a multiple rocket attack? typically i would assume attacks are not syncronized as rpg's are one time use... it wouldn't be economical for combatants to use multiple rockets when its either 1 or none against the tank. could this be mounted on humvees or would it just vaporize innocent bystanders?
