Researchers from EPFL and ETH Zurich have created a pair of ultra-light gloves that “provides extremely realistic haptic feedback,” and it’s officially called “DextrES”. The device is made of nylon, measures 2 mm thick and weighs just 8 grams per finger, while requiring very little power. The eventual goal is to enable it to run on a battery. “DextrES (probably a play on the word “dexterous”) has thin elastic metal strips running over the fingers. When you touch an object in virtual reality, the system applies a voltage difference that causes the strips to stick together. That prohibits your fingers’ movements, mimicking the feeling of touching an actual object,” according to Engadget.
