(Video) Hard Drive Headaches

One of our readers (reelgood0008) sent in this interesting "Hard Drive Headaches" clip that sends out the basic message of: "backup, backup, backup." What are your thoughts? Video after the jump.

Great journalism technique, very humorous to watch! Yet it instills a serious message. Back up your Porn/Data! It’s the same reason we are still using oil as our moving fuel today. We are still using hard disks because they are cheep, economical, large sizes available for cost and with good performance (now perpendicular recording is coming in its looking even more feasible). As opposed to solid state hard disks using technology such as flash memory at the current time. In future we will have 10 terabyte disk drives that fit on a thumbnail chip, but the profit margins and production of hard disks (and them failing also) is good business practice also. Its just like the computer itself is made to outdate itself before it hits the shelf so that in a few years time you HAVE to go out and buy a new one! Good Video!

does your drive fail on you try to get the same disk of Ebay and swap the printboard on the bottom of your drive it helped me ;)

jasper: i doubt that, because each drive has individual mechanical characteristics that are measured on production and saved into a eaprom inside the discs controller. If you really succeeded, you were lucky and got a drive with very similar settings.

I found it interesting what the recovery company used for their desktops. Heh. Better parts means longer life.
