(Video) Holo TVs

Invented by Tibor Balogh, these flat panel "holo TVs" are capable of displaying images in 3-D -- or so it seems. Two video clips after the jump.
Peugeot and Reanult are already interested in the product. The smaller 4:3 monitor displays 7.4-megapixels while the 16:9 monitor can display up to 9.8-megapixels, and lastly, the largest holographic screen is able to display 50.3-megapixels.

i have allways thoudght of this how the angle can change when wating tv cuz in like a videogame or somthing you move your head to see whats on the side but it dost work duh but i have always thodght of this now all they need is to take tv shows in 3d cams lol

It seems that although it gives the illusion of multiple dimensions seamlessly it lacks the depth people are going to want. Is this sone with sensors that track the movement infront of the screen? If so it would be useful for billboards and such but not so much for the home movie buff.

The way it works is that there are multiple projectors (64 in the large version) behind the screen. They each go through lenses which deflect their light in different directions. What it's all doing is creating something like the light that would be coming out of a window you're looking through. Different intensities and different directions of light are produced, so different images go to each eye, and as you move around it, you see different directions of light that are emerging, giving you the 3D walk-around effect. What this means is that MANY people can view the screen at once, and all of them will see a slightly different angle. Here's the patent: here

asdf, that was the stupidest thing I've read this week. The reason why YOU can't see the image in 3d, is because you don't have a 3d monitor.

its an interesting concept, and a fantastic technological showcase, but do people really want to move around the tv in order to see everything? Great for marketing and probably good for games, but i doubt it will be of any good for general TV/movie watching. The next big thing for TV's (after HD) is going to be environmental effects! (such as reactive lighting and wind effects) wasn't phillips working on something like that...
