(Video) How a Deutz Engine Works

One of our readers just sent in an interesting clip showing how a Deutz engine works. It's definitely one of the better CG animations that we've come across. Video after the jump.
Deutz powered equipment is being used in North America more frequently in Arctic (i.e. oil field & mining) conditions due to the simplicity of the air cooled designs. The air-cooled engines are also ideal for use in hot, desert conditions, the use of air-cooling means that they cannot freeze or boil-over

Really well done video, best one i've seen, however would've been more informative if there was speech explaining some of the parts.

Why is it supposedly good in hot weather? I used to live in Phoenix, and during the summer we'd watch old air-cooled VW Beetles catch on fire from freeway overpasses. Why makes this engine different/better?

the main advantage is that the water in a conventional coolant system will boil over, or freeze in extreme temperatures. now when your in the middle of a desert, or the arctic, how are you gonna get fresh water to run a through a radiator? i believe the VWs you saw catch fire did so not because of the coolant system, but because of bad placement of the petrol tank, or another design flaw i'm not too sure of.
