(Video) Open Source 3D Movie

Created by the Orange Open Movie Project studio, "Elephants Dream" is the "world’s first open movie, made entirely with open source graphics software such as Blender". Videos after the jump.
‘Elephants Dream’ is the result of almost a year of work, a project initiated and coordinated by the Blender Foundation. Six people from the Blender user/development community were selected to come over to Amsterdam to work together on an animated short movie, utilizing Open Source tools only.

GREAT POST! Thanks a lot to the one who posted this! Ive been wanting to see this movie for a while now... Its really impressive although I wish they did a better job with the "emo" (Or "Nemo") character... But its impressive!

the voices did NOT match the charecters at all....what was going on with the emo charecters accent...it was BAD. The old guy charecters voice sounded way too young

Great effort, but just because its open source doesn't mean its good. I thought it lacked cohesion and direction.

ok, but just because its open source does not meen its bad either. this project did not lack cohesion and direction, in fact it was extrodinarily organised. the fact that the old dude did not match his voice is such a small thing on the rest of the film. doesnt anybody else appreciate the modeling skils that went into this or the amount of artistic skills this requires?

just because software is free, doesn't mean that movie should be any freeking special. just another short.

my dreams make more sense than that, and i can't even remember any of them.... model and design were ok.. like the artists were on crack or something...
