(Video) R/C Plane Captures Images for Google Earth

Pict-earth shows us a creative way to capture images for Google Earth, using VR goggles, a GPS system, camera, and a R/C plane. Video after the jump.
...view the images in real-time with VR goggles. Later, the images can be shown in Google Earth. And, there are some real practical uses of this technology. Google should take note. This technology could be a much less expensive way to acquire very-high-res data for certain situations - particularly for special events

The final seconds, when the RC plane is flying towards the pilot is pretty cool! It's gotta be freaking spooky or to see yourself in real-time from the point of view of the RC plane, ah ah

I do almost the same, but I use a kite and then import the pictures in to Fugawi (GPS software). The idea isn’t new and I got it from KAP (www.bults.net/kapnet/index.php), this guy is just using hitch toys and a tiny camera. My friend can Lift a Canon EOS 300D and I use an old Minolta A1. But I think that guy has more controll and can cover a bigger area, and it is so much cooler.

[...] This really is an interesting idea, attach a gps receiver, a digital camera and VR goggles to an RC plane, one can view images of the ground below.  A high enough resolution camera could produce some very nice photos. Currently, this is only for personal use i gather, but it is something that has the potential for greatness, espically since those photos could be much better and more up close, and cheaper, and more recent then the current sat photos. {TechEBlog} [...]
