Warcraft III Multi-Touch Panel

Developed by Mitsubishi Electric Research Laboratories (MERL), this interactive multi-input panel allows users to control such games as Warcraft III with "an array of antennas embedded in the touch surface". Basically, a receiver connected to each user's chair, gets signals from antennas near the touch point. The displays are available in 32-inch and 42-inch sizes. Video clip after the jump.

From the article: "This unique touch technology supports multiple touches by a single user (e.g., two handed touch gestures) and distinguishes between simultaneous inputs from multiple users."

Correct me if I'm wrong, but isn't that guy a little young to be doing something advanced as this?
2
Im intrigued ive always wanted a more friends interface then a mouse

I figured somebody would refine the concept of using a touch pad and make it more for gaming. I would definately buy one of these if they ever mass produce them.

Using a mouse would be so much easier, but it would be cool if these were set up in chinese parks with opponets facing each other (like chess players).
6
This is awesome and i can see it being used in other games besides warcraft. It would totally redefine how we interact with our games. I would definitely buy one if ever this hits the market. Sweet!

I have never played WoW b4 so idont know much about it, BUT is the response time suppose to be that slow during commands?
9
That is insane. Can you imagine playing on one of these the size of your wall and having to stand up and move around? Would seem like you're actually there.

This is a great idea, I just hope that the interface can learn to adapt to more rapid movements... I'm sure we ALL know how some of the elite Korean Starcraft guys play.

It is not very difficult to do something like that, it is basically manipulating pressure detection and voice recognition, then convert those input into mouse events.

I just don't understand why a big company like mitsubishi would do a stupid think like using a projector on the table top instead of using an LCD screen behind a transparent multitouch interface, so you don't block the light. the technology already exists, I just don't understand why they would make it worse. also the voice command thing is easy just use dragon naturally speaking with application specific commands. with exception of the multi touch screen I have done this on my tablet PC before with CIV III. (voice command input using dragon and obviously the built in transparent touch screen)

Too bad I can't play Source like this...
