Technology evangelist but it must serve people reliably! Helping the world should not involve the "projection of force" but rather an offer to support the other peoples' efforts to serve themselves! Cultures on an equal footing eliminate the need for warfare. ~ Life: Is about "the gift" not "the package" it comes in.

I true testament to State of the Art! The engineering folks at Apple continue to demonstrate a singluar dedication to a vision that looks as well as it works.

I am surprised how rude people were to each other when this photograph first appeared back in 2006! There is no reason why a non-round wheel could not work if engineered from the proper materials. The tank track theory posted by Paul demonstrates "out of the box" thinking, no pun intended. I purpose if the inner surface of each triangle featured high-efficiency bearings (roller bearings, not ball bearings) and the "tire" where fashioned from interlocking rubber "links" similar to a wrist bracelet, the tire could infact move around the non-round "rim" very quickly. The only obstacles to such a design would be the strength of the interlocking links, "tread" (or surface) wear and the dissipation of heat build up on the "tire" surface. The future is all about material science and the ability for an idea such as this to be modeled in three-dimensions (such as virtual reality) so the physics of it could be analyzed and improved. It is designs such as this that led to the first Jet Ski and Wet Bike, so laugh now and cry later when someone else is cashing their patent royalty check. ~
