  • On Simple Laser Printer Hack Overrides Low Ink Sensor at 06/09 09:44am
Some times its hard to get the labels to stick, so I keep a can of matte black spray paint right next to my brother laser printer... works like a charm. Here is step two for you though. Brother laser cartridges are rated for a predefined number of pages, but almost always can outlast that. If you cover the ports, you will get past the "low toner" messages, but at a certain point you will still get "toner out" messages. If you watch the video again, at around 32 seconds, you will see the side of the cartridge that has the drive gear, and several screws... remove those screws and the cover plate will come off exposing the gears. Here you will find a strange gear that wont turn if you spin the drive gear... it will most likely be held in place with a spring, and you will notice that it has teeth missing on about a quarter of the gear. This gear is what tells the printer it has a new cartridge. It spins once, and the tab attached to it triggers a switch in the printer, then it continues to spin untill it reaches the "toothless" area and simply goes idle... lift this gear up and rotate it counter clockwise untill 1 or 2 teeth are engaged... now when you reinsert the cartridge the printer will get the "new cartridge" message and reset the life cycle. ***warning***... you may find you get days/weeks/even months out of this hack... but you effectively will not have any warning as to when you are actually out of toner... suddenly one day your print jobs will be faded, inconsitant, and generally look like crap... so if you are at the point to do the hack... make sure you have already bought the next cartridge and have it ready... you may need it at any time.

In case anyones curious, the track shown above is Mid-Ohio Sports Car Course in Lexington Ohio... I've worked safety crew there long enough to recognize turn 9 as you exit the esses (or as the drivers have coined it "MADNESS") Mid-Ohio has been a honda/acura sponsered track for years so this pic is actually quite interesting... if honda was to do a secret test run of an experimental car in the US, that would be the track they would use.

In case anyone is interested. The test track shown is Mid-Ohio Sports Car Course in Lexington Ohio. http://www.midohio.com/ They are a Honda sponsored track, and honda/acura uses them for testing all the time. They've had an s2000 as their pace car since the first release. I've driven it (as i used to work there) and I have to tell you its a brick. My grandam handled better in a corner. Tons of power, and quick off the line, but you just can't control the back end. I hope the spoiler shown is standard, cuz it sure would help. They have a fleet of rsx's for the school there, and they handle much better. I dont even remember how many thousands it took to get the first s2000 to be able to handle a few hotlaps.
