Akko has established itself as a manufacturer of keyboards and related components, such as clickable switches and keycaps in a variety of colors. The MetaKey is the company’s most recent use of such expertise. It’s a physical keyboard that attaches to the bottom of your iPhone and allows you to text without the on-screen keyboard getting in the way. More space above your words. It’s similar to how earlier BlackBerry phones worked, with thumbs dancing over buttons rather than glass.
It’s available in six colors: black, white, pink, blue, green, and orange. Each one connects to the phone via USB-C and includes a passthrough for charging or connecting other cables without having to remove the case. The keyboard illuminates with a white backlight, allowing you to text in the dark. Shortcut buttons run down the borders, providing rapid access to Siri, voice dictation, and even a mode that transforms the top rows into large scrollers for feeds. Numbers show with a single tap, and app-specific commands save steps in your everyday routine. Precision holes on the sides make microphones, speakers, and buttons easily accessible, so nothing seems muffled or hidden.

A 9g weight at the back of the keyboard keeps everything in equilibrium. Without it, the phone extends a few inches and the weight shifts forward, making one-handed use difficult during extended periods. Snap on the weight, and the phone will draw back, allowing you to rest your fingers while typing. The casing is built of many layers of polyurethane and thermoplastic, making it light but durable enough to withstand common impacts. Magnets in the rear mirror Apple’s MagSafe system, ensuring that chargers, stands, and wallets stay in place even after a casual toss on the desk.

Data also passes smoothly thanks to the passthrough port, which handles both data and power. Numeric entry is a dedicated shortcut that allows you to enter locations and prices without having to navigate layouts. It takes seconds to set up; simply plug it in and go, with no apps or pairing necessary.

At $59.99, the MetaKey is significantly less expensive than competitors such as the Clicks cases, which start at $139. Availability begins with the iPhone 16 Pro Max right now, with the 17 Pro Max version waiting in line at $69.99—though an early bird discount reduces that to $59.99 for initial buyers. Clicks continues in the game with new iPhone 17 cases that are 40% smaller and 11% lighter. These start at $139 for the 17 and Pro, and $159 for the Pro Max, and feature sculpted keys and side lanyard holes that match Apple’s crossbody strap.
